After graduating from the University of Sydney, she completed her ophthalmic training at the Sydney Eye Hospital. She completed post fellowship training in the United Kingdom at the Manchester Royal Eye Hospital and Stepping Hill Hospital.
Dr Chia’s achievements include a Medical Retina Fellowship as a Novartis Medical Retinal Scholar, a University of Sydney Postgraduate Award Scholarship and a Westmead Millennium Foundation Research Scholarship Stipend Enhancement Grant. She won the Westmead Hospital Association Student Award for Best Medical Student in 1998. Dr Chia was awarded a NHMRC Medical Postgraduate Research Scholarship.
Her research interests incoporated a key role as a co-investigator in the Blue Mountains Eye and Hearing Study 10 year follow-up. To date, Dr Chia has many publications in peer reviewed journals to her credit and numerous presentations at scientific meetings.
